Kickstarter Annoyances

Yesterday we shared via Google+ that Kickstarter had without much warning changed the way their system worked, and now our project would have to go through an additional review process. So, while at 1pm local time we could have launched, by 2pm Kickstarter had taken that option away.

Now, we are still hoping we will have approval later today so we can still launch on Leap Day, but right now we have no way to know when we will be allowed to launch.

Now while we are somewhat frustrated, and feel that KS could have done this differently, we’re still thankful that they are providing this service, and it has been such a great opportunity for so many projects that may have never seen the light of day otherwise.

We Launch the Kickstarter Leap Day

We’re launching tomorrow, so we’ve been finalizing our reward pricing, and we’ve created a new backer reward for our Kickstarter.

Our new $500 Backer Reward, limit of FIVE available.

“The Customizer”

Design your own custom BATTLE BLOK. Not only will you receive the complete $185 set, you will be able to create your own custom BLOK. The custom BLOK will be designed by you, and we will work with you to create the molds and masters. Then once it’s complete we will send you 20 copies of your design. Your design will also go on sale on our future online store with a designed by credit in your name.

Why this reward is so expensive: $185 covers your initial set of BATTLE BLOKX, $300 goes to creating and casting the masters, then molding the copies of the custom BLOKX you designed, then $15 will go to shipping you your 20 copies.

There are of course limitations to what can be formed through the BATTLE BLOKX molding process, and you need to keep those in mind when thinking about becoming a backer at this level. BLOKX cannot have any overhangs, deep undercuts, or thick texture, the BLOK must be able to mold and unmold without any vertical restriction. Finally your design will have to fit within a 3.5 inch x 3.5 inch x 2 inch box.

Remember this is not a profit sharing offer or any other kind of future dividends offer, aside from your BLOKX all you will receive is a designer credit, on our future web store.

Shipping to the 48 Continental US included, all others please add $20, your initial set of BLOKX will ship with the other backer rewards, but you custom BLOKX won't ship till after you design them, and we make them of course.

Don’t forget there are only FIVE of these reward’s available, so you better be quick if your interested.

The Prototypes are Not Happening.

Every new business has it’s hiccups, and this is one of ours. We picked up a device for creating vacuum formed hobby items like soap and candles, it turns out that the vacuum provided by the shop vac, just isn’t capable of providing sufficient vacuum pressure to form the 90 degree angles need to make the BATTLE BLOKX.

We were able to get one relatively good model, but most we not great.

As you can see there is significant “webbing” and low definition.

The prototypes we only going to be used to demonstrate our BLOKX in our Kickstarter video, we don’t need them for any technical reason, as the capabilities of the professional machine are far beyond that of the hobby devices, which make great Jell-O molds by the way.

So, where do we go from here? Well, we keep moving forward, were going to start working on our Kickstarter video, and revising our Kickstarter project, once it’s complete we’ll launch.

Well I’ll have a lot of 3D rendering to do, so all for now.

New Photos of the First Prototype Masters

Here are a few pictures of the new clay master for the prototypes that we’ll be molding in the coming weeks.

These are just for testing, but as you can see we tried to stay as close to the renders as possible even with these handmade examples. The final product will have masters printed on a 3D printer, and will match the 3D computer models exactly.

There’s a lot of work ahead in the coming weeks, as we prep for the Kickstarter launch, we’ll do our best to keep you all informed of the constant design changes and tweaks.

The figures are for demonstrating scale only and are copyright of FFG and Dust Studio.

One Step Closer…

Today we placed orders for the equipment to prototype the Battle Blokx, and filed our papers for incorporation in West Virginia. This means that here in a few days not only will be officially a real company, but we will begin building the first playable Blok prototypes.

We’re very excited here and we hope that some of you are too, if all goes well we should hit our goal of launching the Kickstarter in March.

New design and a little delay.

We planed on launching the Kickstarter on  March 1, but due to events beyond our control we will be delayed about three to four weeks. We still hope to launch before April.

In the mean time we will be taking this time to continue working on the 3D renders and developing new Blok ideas. We have already decided that the Basik Blok should be shortened so that you folks will have more control over how tall a structure is. While this means you will need more Blokx to build a tower it also means a set will contain more Blokx; as the new ones should be easier to form and require less plastic.

Here’s a look…

And this is what a stack of four will look like.

We’ll have more news as February continues.
